The Regatta season finished well, with crews reaching the finals at Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Burton on Trent, Ross and winning at Bridgnorth. Attention has now turned to the up-and-coming Head season with the squad training hard to beat its previous position at the Head of the River. The Squad aim is twofold – to continue to expand our current membership and maintain our focus on delivering competitive crews into as many events as possible.
The squad is open to all; broken down into Novice, Intermediate and Senior groups. There are those who are able to commit fully to the racing calendar and training program and they will be entered into all the major regattas. However, we continue to actively recruit new members and encourage them to participate wherever possible. So, no matter what your level of rowing ability we will have a place for you.
Crews are selected by the Coaching Team based on erg tests, water and ongoing assessment. The stretch of river available, both on weeknights and at the weekend, offer superb opportunities to be coached and to build fitness. In addition to then rowing based training, crews are also encouraged to adopt the weight training programme to build strength and on Thursday nights, attend circuit training run by the club.
So, whether you are looking to learn a new sport or are already an experienced rower new to the area we would be more than happy to hear from you.
